Türk Loydu Appointed as the Sole Authorized Body for Ship Recycling
A significant new era has begun in Türkiye regarding safe, environmentally responsible, and internationally compliant ship recycling processes in the maritime sector. In recognition of this responsibility, Türk Loydu has further strengthened its expertise in the implementation of international standards in the maritime sector by taking on a new area of responsibility.
Under the signed authorization protocol, Türk Loydu, acting on behalf of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Türkiye and the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change of the Republic of Türkiye, has assumed the role of the sole authorized body responsible for conducting technical inspections, conformity assessments, and authorization processes for ship recycling facilities.
This development marks a significant milestone for the sector in terms of the implementation of the provisions of the 2009 Hong Kong International Convention, to which Türkiye is a party.
Concurrently, with the Regulation on the Authorization of Ship Recycling Facilities, published in the Official Gazette on June 22, 2026, the technical, environmental, operational, and safety criteria for ship recycling activities were redefined, and a new regulatory framework aligned with international standards was established for industry stakeholders.
With its technical expertise, independent conformity assessment capabilities, and strong collaboration with public authorities, Türk Loydu will continue to play an active role in helping industry stakeholders comply with this new regulatory process.
We are working to ensure a safe, sustainable future for the Turkish maritime sector that is in line with international standards.
