Türk Loydu and Çeksan Shipyard Sign Classification Agreement for a New-Generation Eco-Friendly Chemical Tanker (2)
Türk Loydu and Çeksan Shipyard have signed a classification agreement for the first vessel of the NEOCLEAN TANKERS
series. The new-generation eco-friendly chemical tanker, to be built under hull number NB85, will be constructed under
Türk Loydu classification, marking an important milestone in sustainable maritime technologies. The signing ceremony
brought together Başaran Bayrak, Chairman of the Board of Çeksan Shipyard, and Prof. Dr. Oral Erdoğan, Chairman of the
Türk Loydu Foundation. The ceremony was also attended by Cihan Bayrak, General Manager of Çeksan Shipyard; Ferhat

Director of Türk Loydu. As the global maritime industry accelerates its transition toward lower carbon emissions, the
NEOCLEAN TANKERS series combines environmental sustainability, high operational efficiency, and future-ready energy
infrastructure. Designed and developed by Turkish engineers, the project will be certified under Türk Loydu's
internationally recognized classification expertise. The vessel will have an overall length of approximately 109.5
metres, a beam of 17 metres, and a deadweight capacity of 7,800 tonnes. With a cargo capacity of approximately 8,800
cubic metres, it will serve the chemical transportation sector. The vessel is designed to achieve a maximum speed of 12
knots and an economical cruising speed of 10.5 knots, while accommodating a crew of 18. The vessel's hybrid propulsion
system is built around a lithium-ion battery system with a capacity of approximately 10 MWh, supported by six 555 kWe
generators. Designed to achieve high energy efficiency with a fuel consumption of approximately 7 tonnes per hour, the
modular system will allow the battery capacity to be expanded to 25 MWh in the future. One of the project's most
remarkable features is its zero-emission target for port operations. The vessel is designed to perform port entry, cargo
discharge, and departure entirely on battery power. Thanks to its cold ironing capability, it will be able to connect to
shore power, recharge its batteries, and carry out port operations without running its generators. In addition, a
silicone-based environmentally friendly hull coating, an optimized hull form, and specially designed propeller and
rudder systems will further improve energy efficiency while contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions. Steel
cutting for the NB85 is scheduled to begin in September 2026, with commercial operations planned to commence before the
end of 2027. Leveraging its expertise in international classification and conformity assessment, Türk Loydu continues to
